The challenge

Why reports of degrading treatment so often fall short

Most schools want to get this right. What is missing is a way of working that holds up even in a stressful week. At the same time, damages rulings from BEO (the Child and Student Ombudsman) have risen sharply in recent years.

  1. Paper, email and loose notes

    Reports end up in inboxes, Word documents and binders. Nobody has the full picture, and it is hard to see what has actually been done.

  2. Deadlines that slip

    The Education Act requires schools to investigate promptly. When cases are tracked by hand, they easily drift across weeks, holidays and staff changes.

  3. Weak documentation when someone asks

    When BEO, Skolinspektionen (the Swedish Schools Inspectorate) or a guardian asks for records, the school must be able to show the chain from report to follow-up. Often it cannot be reconstructed.

    Agreed measures are linked to the case, so it is clear what was done, by whom and when.

    The principal sees what remains, and the system automatically tracks the deadlines under chapter 6 of the Education Act.

Security and GDPR

Built for GDPR and for sensitive data about children

Information about degrading treatment is among the most sensitive data a school handles. That is why SafeSchool collects as little as possible and protects what it does collect. Read more about security.

    All data is stored in Microsoft Azure, Sweden region. The service is built for GDPR and for sensitive data about children.

  • No account for families

    Students and guardians need neither an app nor an account. That means less personal data and no passwords to keep track of.

  • Role-based access

    Staff, principals and school organisers only see what their role requires. Every event in a case is logged.

Questions about managing degrading treatment digitally

How does SafeSchool handle GDPR and personal data?

All data is stored in Microsoft Azure, Sweden region, and does not leave the EU/EEA. The school or school organiser is the data controller and SafeSchool is the data processor. We sign a data processing agreement before you start. Access is role-based, so each user only sees what their role requires.

What does SafeSchool cost, and is there a pilot?

Joining our pilot programme is currently free of charge, with no lock-in. Pricing after the pilot depends on how many schools will use the system. We go through it in the demo, so you know the cost before you decide.

About the pilot programme

How long does it take to get started?

SafeSchool is web-based and works in any modern browser on computers, tablets and phones. There is nothing to install. After a 15-minute demo you get a test environment with fictitious cases, so you can try it at your own pace with no obligation.

Can students report anonymously?

Yes. A student who has witnessed something can report completely anonymously, without giving a name or contact details. Students and guardians can also report with their name, without an app or account. All reports from students and all anonymous reports are reviewed by staff before they become a case.

Can SafeSchool be integrated with other systems?

SafeSchool works on its own and needs no integrations to be used. API integration with other systems is on our roadmap. Let us know which systems you use and we will take it into account in our planning.

What happens to our data if we stop using SafeSchool?

You receive your data in a structured format. It is then deleted from our systems within 30 days of the agreement ending, as set out in the data processing agreement.

Does SafeSchool help us comply with chapter 6 of the Education Act?

SafeSchool is built around the steps chapter 6 of the Swedish Education Act requires when a school learns of degrading treatment: reporting, investigation, measures and follow-up. The system tracks deadlines and keeps the documentation in one traceable case. Responsibility for assessments and decisions stays with the school.
